Overview

Turning food waste into fertile ground

Together with CAS students completing community service hours, LGG coordinated organic waste collection from 20 restaurants in Mar Mikhael. Students learned segregation at the source and saw how composting turns scraps into soil.

One day. Twenty restaurants. 200 kg of food waste sent to compost instead of landfill.

What students take away

Everything that comes with it.

  • Service hours

Structured programs support CAS and university community service requirements.

  • Field experience

Real collection work with real restaurants, not a classroom simulation.

  • Source segregation

How to keep organic waste apart from packaging, and why it matters.

  • Composting up close

A visit to a professional facility to see scraps turn into soil.

How it works

From first step to real results.

  1. Coordinate with local restaurants

LGG lines up the participating restaurants and plans the collection route.

  2. Provide bags for organic waste segregation

Each restaurant receives bags to keep food scraps apart from packaging.

  3. Collect and transport separated food waste

Student teams collect the separated waste and bring it in for composting.

  4. Learn at a professional composting facility

Students follow the waste to the facility and see the process first-hand.
